The 2011 27 for Freedom Race was more than just a road race. It was also a significant social and community occasion of celebration and community upliftment.

Proceeds from the entry fee income for 2011 27 for Freedom Run, was donated to a number of needy organisations in the Boland region.

Come join thousands trace the footsteps of an icon - Nelson Mandela - in his historic walk to freedom.

At first light on February 12th, 2011, thousands of aspirant runners, from as far afield as the Netherlands, Switzerland, Canada, Namibia or KwaZulu Natal, Gauteng and Simonstown jostled at the starting line of the historic 27 for Freedom Run.

A star-studded field of more that 600 athletes set off on the 27 km route through the winelands and forest areas between Paarl and Franschhoek to eventually emulate the final steps of Nelson Mandela as he walked out of the same prison gate and to freedom in 1990.
